If your mouth is constantly saying negative words, REVERSE it and try to use your mouth to bless others all day! This verse doesn't apply just to cuss words, it also applies to gossip and putting others and yourself down. Clean up your mouth!
See I don't think swear words in and themselves are harmful: it's the intent behind them. If someone says you kick ass, is that worse than if someone calls someone else stupid?

A swear? Yes. Harmful? Not really: St. Paul really wanted to hammer home the fact that his life was meaningless before following Jesus.
